According to the World Health Organization (WHO), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the third leading cause of death worldwide, with most deaths among people under 70 occurring in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Most asthma-related deaths also occur in LMICs, highlighting the urgent need for greater awareness, early diagnosis, and equitable access to quality respiratory care.
Global Asthma and COPD Outreach (GACO) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lung health by empowering underserved communities, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), through education, advocacy, early detection, self-management support, and equitable access to quality respiratory care.
Through community outreach, education, early identification, referrals, and volunteer engagement, GACO is helping communities build greater awareness of asthma, COPD, and lung health.
